Frequently asked questions
FAQ’s
What does Altimar do?
Altimar is an aerial intelligence company that uses advanced drone technology, secure data storage, and analytics to help organisations inspect, monitor, and manage critical infrastructure and environmental assets. We operate across industrial, coastal, marine, and environmental sectors in Australia, delivering repeatable intelligence that supports safer operations and evidence-based decision-making.
How are drone inspections safer than traditional methods?
Drone inspections eliminate the need for rope access, scaffolding, shutdowns, and personnel working at height. Altimar's CASA-certified pilots capture high-resolution visual and thermal data from the air — providing the same or better detail than manual inspections, without operational disruption, safety risk, or extended site closures.
What industries does Altimar serve?
Altimar serves five core industries: renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro), infrastructure (bridges, ports, warehouses, industrial buildings), insurance (claims verification and risk assessment), environmental services (habitat monitoring, restoration tracking, compliance reporting), and marine and coastal (reef health, shoreline erosion, aquaculture monitoring).
What is Altimar Vault and how does it store my data?
Altimar Vault is a secure, centralised data platform that stores all aerial imagery, inspection records, maps, and 3D models from your projects. Data is encrypted during transmission and at rest, protected by multi-factor authentication, and accessible only to authorised personnel. Vault enables long-term data comparison so you can track how assets and environments change over time.
Can Altimar detect problems that aren't visible to the naked eye?
Yes. Altimar uses radiometric thermal imaging to detect heat anomalies invisible to standard cameras — including roof leaks, electrical hotspots, insulation failures, moisture ingress, and solar panel defects. Thermal findings are visualised through Altimar IQ dashboards for clear, actionable reporting.
Is Altimar licensed and insured to operate commercially in Australia?
Altimar holds a CASA-approved Remote Operator's Certificate (ReOC) and all flights are conducted by RePL-certified pilots. Our team includes Category 1 thermography-trained operators. We carry public liability and aviation insurance up to AUD $10 million and follow documented flight planning, risk assessment, and privacy governance procedures.
How does Altimar's aerial intelligence help with long-term asset management?
Unlike one-off inspections, Altimar captures structured, repeatable data that builds an evolving digital record of your assets and environments. Over time, this enables baselining and change detection — identifying trends like structural deterioration, vegetation recovery, erosion progression, or thermal performance decline. This longitudinal intelligence supports proactive maintenance planning, compliance reporting, and capital expenditure decisions.
